Chattanooga City Hall

In the spring of 2002, TWH began the process of evaluating City departments to determine those most suited for locations in a renovated City Hall. After five years of planning, design, demolition and construction, the product of this effort was dedicated in May of 2007.

The plans for the renovated building exterior incorporated wood-clad windows and monumental bronze entrance doors on a cleaned limestone exterior, all of which recalled the original R. H. Hunt design. Together, the interior features a multicolored geometric terrazzo floor, white oak paneling, and coffered ceilings in the public areas. The open stairway is the focal point of the lobby spaces featuring a series of backlit stained glass panels which celebrate the City. The adjacent elevators were completely rebuilt with the cabs elegantly appointed. The majority of the office areas incorporate an open plan which takes advantage of the abundant natural light. Private offices continue the Oak panel and glass detail complementing the adjacent spaces with shared natural light. In addition to the architectural features described, new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire sprinkler systems were incorporated, equipping the building to serve the City for another 100 years.
